Defense Medical Examinations
The defense counsel orders these examinations, and these are usually for a personal injury case.
For these evaluations, preparing the plaintiff is essential!
Before the Defense Medical Examinations can begin, the nurse observer gives the examiner a copy of the Response/Objection letter.
- The examiner usually wants to take complete medical, surgical, and medication history. Objection letters stipulate history only as it relates to the injuries sustained in the accident.
- During the introduction, the nurse observer highlights the essential parts of a Response letter and immediately reminds the examiner and the client what the rules are.
- DME nurse observer observes and reports, which tests were performed, which were not, and which tests were performed incorrectly by the examiner.
- The nurse observer also reports the plaintiff’s responses to these tests and pain complaints of painful expressions.
